As technology advances to create better home-viewing experiences, dedicated home theaters become more and more popular. Whether you’re looking at new homes for sale, building your own custom home, or considering adding on to your existing home design, you can have the home theater of your dreams.

As you search for new homes that have already been built, look for models that include some sort of “bonus room.” Many new homes may already have home theaters built in, but if not, most will at least be wired properly for a home theater. If you’re interested in a new home that has a non-specific bonus room, contact the new home builder to get an idea of what would be required to turn it into a home theater. As with any addition, it will be easier to have the home theater added before you move in, if possible.

If you’ll be building a custom new home with a dedicated home theater, think about where it should be located. For example, many people choose to build their home theaters in the basement, as the basement tends to get less natural light and is farther away from bedrooms and living areas.
