Long have pet owners tried to hide the fur from their home. And the dog leashes and toys. And the cat-scratched sofa.
Turns out, when you have a four-legged family member, it can be hard to keep your home stylish and neat, while making it comfortable for pets. No more, says IKEA!
The Swedish furniture and home goods company has launched a pet line, dubbed Lurvig, which means shaggy in Swedish. The pet line is like no other, particularly when it comes to price. Items in the line are $50 or less, which includes a framed dog bed, a dog bed that can fold out for more space (much like their human-sized Askeby chair bed), cat beds, pet cushions, pet carriers, food dishes, water dispenser and my favorite, a cat scratch mat that you can wrap around furniture legs. No need to chase away the cat from beloved furniture!
The line, which is available in the United States, Canada and Japan, was created with design and pets in mind. Working with a vet to make sure the products catered to pet behavior and needs, the line addresses pet’s sleeping, eating, playing, exercising and social necessities. The Kallax shelving unit is a compact white desk that can be used for to hold a lamp, vases or books. Hidden in the shelf is a place for kitty to sleep, making this subtle kitty bed stylish and functional.
Why the fuss over Fido and Fluffy? According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), approximately 44 percent of U.S. households have a dog and 35 percent have a cat. That’s 78 million dogs and 85.8 million cats. Simply put, we love our pets and welcome them as family members.
“I feel that my pets are the ones who can really take me to the present moment,” Lurvig designer Inma Bermudéz said in a news release. “When we share our time together, my head is more free and other worries and stress fall away. They teach us respect and their unconditional love is priceless.”
IKEA, you know the way to our hearts is through our pets. We welcome this long-needed pet line and can’t wait to see any additions.
