If you’re in the midst of planning your dream home, you’re choosing everything from crown molding to baseboards – and far too many people have probably offered their opinion. But have you asked your dog, arguably the most important family member, what they want in a new home?
If you haven’t, it’s not too late! Here are some ideas to help inspire the luxury doghouse of your pup’s dreams.
Rooftop Lounge
After a long day at work, it’s nice to be able to kick back on a rooftop patio with a cool drink and watch the sunrise – and your dog would agree! Consider a doghouse with a flattop roof, or one that’s only slightly angled, that is easy for your doggo to climb onto. Make sure that the doghouse is in a shaded area, and is made of material that doesn’t absorb too much heat, so that your dog can relax even on warm days.
Puppy Pool
Not ready for an in-ground pool in the backyard? Start small with a bone-shaped pool with a small deck so your pup can cool off on warm days. Just make sure the pool isn’t too deep so your dog isn’t in danger when you’re not around; better yet, snag a hardtop pool cover that you can attach when you’re away from home.
Indoor Upgrade
We’re focusing a lot on outdoor doghouses, but if you have a pooch who’s more inclined for central cooling and heating, there’s no reason they can’t have a luscious space. Think about a framed metal crate that doubles as an end table in your living room, or a regal canopy space to give them some privacy. Take things a step further by dedicating an entire room for your pup to lounge, play, sleep, and eat – that space under your stairs has such potential!
Custom Doghouse Builders
If you’re ready to go big for your dog’s home, we’ve got you covered! Here are four builders you can call on to create the luxury doghouse of your pup’s dreams:
Rockstar Puppy Boutique
Perhaps most well-known for building a custom dog house for Jenni “JWoww” Farley’s two dogs Bella and Noel, Rockstar Puppy Boutique has something suitable for every four-legged friend accustomed to a life of elegance. For minimalist and modern mutts, the Icosahedron is a great fit. Wanting something a bit more historical and flashy? Make sure your pooch knows they’re royalty with the Taj Mahal Dog House!
La Petite Maison
While luxury playhouses are what helped establish this company, they’ve added some wonderful luxury dog houses to their portfolio with wonderful success. The Mediterranean Doghouse is a gorgeous and practical option, with its Spanish style roof and cool tile inside to help inhabitants stay comfortable on a warm day. Want an indoor-outdoor option? The Georgetown Doghouse has a second floor balcony that’s perfect for pups who want a bit of shade outdoors.
Bow Wow Doghouses
Looking for a more traditional look to the doghouse, but with the option to upgrade? Doghouses by Bow Wow might not look like a modern-day mansion, but they are made with practical (upcycled!) materials and can be upgraded to included features such as a front porch or sliding window. There’s even an option for a solar-powered exhaust fan that will automatically kick on when sun is at its highest to provide extra air circulation.
Horizon Structures
If your pup tends to get into trouble when they have free reign of the yard, consider Horizon Structures’ outdoor dog houses, which include an attached, fully fenced dog run. The insulated interior box will keep pets comfortable and safe throughout the day, while the run allows them to engage with the outside world when they feel like it – giving you peace of mind when you have to spend a long day at the office.
DogEden
While a DogEden doghouse might not emulate the Hamptons vibe you believe your dog deserves, the craftsmanship and unique design makes these homes no less of a luxury. Designed with a below-ground den accessible by a 3-foot entrance above, DogEden homes are designed to use the earth’s natural temperature to heat and cool. These homes are perfect for dogs that seek a safe, secure home for comfort!
