6 Home Projects to Complete in a Week or Less

For many, crafting is a great way to pass the time and ease a bit of stress – two things we seem to have a lot of these days. If you’re needing some energy-releasing creative tasks over the next few days, here are six projects you can in complete in less than a week.

Depending on your skill, some of these projects might seem too easy or too challenging, but don’t be afraid to tackle anything on this list!

Update Hardware

Want to add a quick eye-catching touch? Swap out plain drawer knobs, cabinet handles, and light switch covers for unique options. Spend a bit of time perusing antique shops and grab a screwdriver, and in no time you’ll have small bits of glamour ordaining your walls.

Need something that’ll keep the kiddos entertained? Sit them down at the craft table with acrylic paints and some brushes and let them get to work. And if the living room light plates don’t turn out museum-worthy, swap those with light plates with ones from the playroom and you’re all set.

Brighten the Front Door

While you’ve got the paint out, go ahead and spice up the curb appeal of your home by painting your front door. You’ll have to check HOA policies first – some communities want a consistent look throughout – but if you’re given free reign, go ahead with a deep crimson or marigold to make your home stand out from the others on the street.

HOA says no? Splash some paint onto the inside of cabinets instead for a bright surprise when opening them.

Install Additional Lighting

Doors and cabinet interiors aren’t the only things that need to lighten up: under-cabinet lighting is a great idea. These are perfect for softer lighting than the blinding fluorescents of kitchen overheads. If you’ve got little ones, older relatives, or anyone accident-prone living in the house, add LED strips to the baseboards in hallways and social spaces. A bit of extra lighting will make it easy to see corners and turns, making your home safer for everyone.

Modify the Gallery Wall

If you’ve been meaning to replace old family photos, add new prints or homemade art to the walls, or just rearrange a few pieces for better feng shui, this is the perfect time to tackle the task. Remove any hanging pieces, caulk holes too big to go unnoticed, and take time to map out your plans for the gallery wall. Use measure frames and painter’s tape to decide where everything will go.

The best part? This is a single-day project, meaning if you don’t like it, you have plenty of time to rearrange things and try again!

Add Frames

Putting a frame around anything almost instantly ups the wow factor, so make use of this easy fix. If you go with floating box shelves, find some vintage frames and paint them the same color of the shelves for an added touch of sophistication.

Mirror feeling boring in the bathroom? Install a frame around the edge. Go for a rustic look with a natural wood frame, or use metal for industrial vibes. If you’re comfortable with cloth crafting and have a free-floating mirror that can be taken off the wall, go for a completely unique look using scrap fabric. Trim the cloth to the needed size and secure it with a staple gun, then reinsert the mirror.

Update the Shelving

Floating shelves are hugely popular nowadays. Purchase a set online or take things a step further by staining or painting your own shelves. If you’re not confident in your installation skills, find stylish brackets at a vintage shop to secure the shelves.

Want something more versatile? Go with the pegboard shelving that originated in garages and has worked its way into craft rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms everywhere. Purchase a pegboard, smaller planks of wood to serve as the shelves, and get out your toolkit. (Alternatively, buy the pegboard and go with premade attachments for an easier option).

When you’re stuck at home for long periods of time, it can get pretty difficult to keep yourself from going a bit bonkers. The best thing to do is to pick up a project and get started! Use the time to productively update your space to ensure it’s exactly what you want it to be.
