Air Plant
Submerge in water for two hours every 10 days.
Air plants are perhaps some of the least fussy plants in the bunch. They don’t require soil to grow! These babies can flourish best in living spaces, bedrooms, and bathrooms. Air plants are also known to purify the air, making them a great option for decorative plants that also transform a room into a restful space.
Aloe
Water deeply every three weeks.
Aloe, with its long spiked deep green leaves, makes strides in indirect light. This bountiful plant sits perfectly on countertops, nightstands, desks, and mantles. And yes, the aloe plant is a natural healer for soothing burns and skin irritations.
Calathea
Water when the top inch or two of soil is dry.
Calathea is a remarkably striking plant, with purple, pink, and red tones in their green leaves. Besides adding texture and pops of color to your home, Calathea develops well in indirect light with moist soil. This plant is the perfect answer to a hard-to-design corner, adding more harmony anywhere.
Dragon Tree
Water once a week.
If you live in an apartment with very low-light, the Dragon Tree is a charm. Tuck the plant away in a corner and it’ll thrive. However, it is toxic for furry friends so keep it away from pets.
Jade Plant
Water every two to three weeks.
It’s a myth that succulents are tricky and fickle plants to maintain. The round, sage colored leaves shoot up with ample water every few weeks, but this plant actually hibernates if it receive less water. The Jade Plant tends to want for nothing, with the exception of a few solid hours of direct sunlight each day.
Peace Lily
Water once a week, spritz leaves with water every few days.
Peace Lilies grow marvelously indoors and bloom for years. (Personally, my own Peace Lily plant has been with me for four years and counting!) Peace Lilies enjoy low-light and do best when the top layer of soil is moist. These plants will even let you know when they’re in need of some watering as their leaves start drooping. The longer you watch a Peace Lily plant, the quicker you will intuitively know how to care for it and predict when it needs water before the droop.
Rubber Plant
Water biweekly, keep leaves moist with a damp cloth.
Searching for a large, expansive leafy green plant that’s also easy-to-care for? Rubber plants have a deep green luster and wide, round leaves, and work wonderfully as a large floor plant or impressive corner.
Snake Plant
Water once every 10 days.
For folks who have doubts about keeping plants alive, the Snake Plant is virtually death-proof. They can withstand heat, dryness, and even pesky bugs. The long, light dusty green leaves can pale into shades and patterns, making these plants a work of art. Snake plants develop well in indirect light and require less water than you think.
Spider Plant
Water once a week.
Spider plants are wallet-friendly because these fast-growing plants sprout off smaller ones that can be re-potted. One plant can multiply into two, three, or four plants. Spider plants succeed in well-lit, sunny areas in the home, such as near a bright window.
ZZ Plant
Water when soil is completely dry, not on a schedule.
The ZZ plant is one of the crown jewels of low maintenance plants. This round, leafy plant works best in a low-light environment. ZZ plants are delightfully unfussy and retain water well, so you won’t even have to commit to watering these greens on a weekly basis.
