New Home Inspiration: Embracing Your New Home Honeymoon

Purchasing a new home is a rollercoaster experience, with emotions ranging from excitement to despair to anticipation to impatience to happiness โ€“ and often, everything in between. And while everything tends to mellow out after signing the contract and moving in, itโ€™s also the start of a brand new phase of the homeownership experience.

Thereโ€™s so much to look forward to once you move into your new home โ€“ here are some of the most exciting things coming your way.

Enjoy the Custom Features

A newly-built home is constructed to meet your needs. A home theater, skylights, an art studio, a fireplace โ€“ whichever features were special requests for you, make sure you fully embrace and enjoy them. Take time to think about how youโ€™ll highlight or decorate these new spaces, make use of them (donโ€™t just keep everything wrapped in plastic and inaccessible!), and allow them to bring all of the joy to your home you were hoping for.

DIY Projects Galore

The best part of homeownership, some would argue, is the wide range of projects you can pursue to update, change, or add to your space. While most renovations donโ€™t occur till later on โ€“ you just got your new home, no need to demolish any walls โ€“ there might be small changes to make.

Bringing mismatched furniture into a new space? Give it a fresh paintjob for a more cohesive look. Or maybe you want a more eclectic touch to your cabinets โ€“ head to an antique store for unique drawer knobs and handles. Want something thatโ€™ll make the new house feel like home? Gather the kids for some finger painting on the new mailbox. Not only will these projects relax your brain and bring out your creative side, but physically leaving a mark on your home helps strengthen the bond between you and your new space.

Embrace Leisure Time

A huge benefit of new homes is the simplified maintenance they come with. Major appliances donโ€™t need to be replaced anytime soon, roofs are leak-free, and there are no concerns about foundation. Think about all the ways your extra time and money can be used: Start saving for that family vacation, or planning the book club youโ€™ve always wanted to start.

It can even be as simple as carving out time for self-care or quality time with family. Regardless of what helps you recharge, know that in your new home, youโ€™ll have plenty of time and energy to redirect toward those activities.

Party Central

No, you donโ€™t have to throw the most epic house party to break in your new home, but you can and should welcome friends and family into your new space! Make your new home the place to be for holidays and celebrations by planning a knockout housewarming gathering; show off all of the best features of your home, such as the formal dining room that would make for the perfect backdrop to Thanksgiving dinner.

Your Space, Your Vision

Once youโ€™ve moved into your new home, thereโ€™s no reason the excitement should end. Being a homeowner comes with a lot of responsibilities, but also a lot of joy; donโ€™t forget to give yourself time to embrace all of the good things, too.
